Under the Weather
an exhibition by Matthew Spalding

by Carolyn Hanlon

Under the Weather is an exciting exhibition by Matthew Spalding, studying how people and their environment interact is what inspires most of Matthew Spalding’s work.
While the country was in lockdown, he turned his lens on his 5km, the North Inner City, using his camera to capture the conditions and paint the blurred lines between reason and fear, between the constants that we knew and what was unravelling.

‘Under the Weather’ explores the unnatural, the suspended, the loss of human touch and close contact; impressionistic glimpses of Dubliners living between the raindrops, and the new bulletins. “The whole point of taking pictures is so that you don’t have to explain things with words.” — Elliott Erwitt.
