Draíocht Blanchardstown presents award-winning playwright Deirdre Kinahan’s The Visit, as part of Dublin Theatre Festival 2021 from Oct 13 – 16.

The play charts the contemporary female heart, breaking out from old ways, and cowboys hats and a ukulele , all to be witnessed in the show.

This beautifully told story is also play about the realisation of dreams and handles the coexistence of laughter and tears highlighting how closely they cosy up. Kinahan is a writer who loves to chart the contemporary female heart and champion the underdog. Not in a romantic sense but in a must keep beating to stay alive sense.  

This one-woman show played by actress  Mary O’Driscoll known for her big screen roles in the movie Brooklyn (2015), The Bookshop (2017) and Ordinary Decent Criminal (2000). She plays a woman called Rose who had to live a life in coercive control with her late husband and its about the impact it can have on those living through it. Rose’s character started life in Draíocht’s ground breaking project, HOME THEATRE Ireland, which saw 30 leading playwrights and theatre makers spend time with 30 ‘hosts’, a host was someone who lived in Dublin 15, before writing a bespoke twenty-minute play inspired by the host to be performed in the host’s home to an invited audience of family and friends.    

You can expect singing, laughter, hurt, cowboy hats and cactus.  This is a play that audiences will really enjoy but there is a tragic truth at the heart of it which will lingerThere are important themes in the play that can affect many families and how people can their lives back in track to fulfil their dreams.
