A SERIES OF COMMUNITY EVENTS TAKE PLACE THIS SATURDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER IN SUPPORT OF CLIMATE ACTION WEEK 2021
In support of Fingal’s Climate Week 2021 Bayside Community Association will be running a series of community events to raise awareness of the importance of climate action and has designed a fun day of activities to create awareness among Baysiders of the ways that Bayside Community Association is taking action on climate change.
Check out the packed agenda for this Saturday 18th September and wander down to the lambchop for some community spirit and inventive ideas on what you can do to help our climate!
DROP-BY EVENTS
12pm to 2pm – Biodiversity and Bayside
Where: Terrace Garden on the Lambchop
What: Learn how your garden can be part of the Coastal Bee Corridor stretching from Malahide to Howth and Sutton to Bayside. Also consider the ways that even small communal areas near you could be more pollinator-friendly.
12pm to 2pm – Sowing the seeds of love – Children’s event
Where: Children’s Garden on the Lambchop What: Marie Therese Behan introduces children to the magic of extracting seeds from this year’s flowers so that we can have new plants next year. Colour and fun art activities too.
12pm to 4pm – Tea on the Terrace & Swap Shop
Where: Terrace Garden on the Lambchop What:Join us for cakes and tea on the Terrace and Visit the Swap Shop Table Don’t throw them away! Donate your books, unwanted gifts, children’s toys and books and leave a donation for Bayside Community Association. You might also find something that you’re looking for here.
Guided Walks and Tours – All Welcome, no registration required
12pm to 2pm – Bayside’s Organic Community Orchard
Where: Meet at the Terrace Garden on the Lambchop What:Hear all about the amazing work of the Orchard volunteers and if you’d like to help out just bring some gloves – extra hands always needed!
2pm to 2.30pm – Art Action for Climate Change
Where: Meet at the Dart Station What: Aoife Cannon provides the context for the mural on the Underpass and talks about Shane Sutton’s artwork. Shane was invited to portray, through his artwork, the climate changes that the International Space Agency observed.
4pm to 5pm – Wildlife in Bayside
Where: Meet at the front door of the Church What: Eileen O’Connor will show you where you can observe wildlife in a suburban setting. Suitable for all ages.
Workshops – All welcome no registration required
2pm to 3pm – How to make a bird box / insect hotel from recycled wood
Where: Terrace Garden, Lampchop What: JP Kerrisk & Tony Quirke will show you how to re-purpose old wood to make new objects.
3pm to 5pm – How to Compost!
Where: Terrace Garden, Lampchop What: Master Composter, Craig Benton, outlines 3 different types of composting. He’ll demonstrate how to compost food and garden waste.
